Light Keepers

Did you know that light and darkness cannot in any way, occupy the same space at the same time?????? Light will always drowned out darkness...

I have the wonderful privilege of serving amongst the Young Women in my ward family. I love this calling with all of the energy, laughter and sometimes challenges that comes with every young teen-age girl. These girls are amazing! I love all of them and I love the Young women's program. It truly is an inspired program.

One of my favorite things about the Young Women's program is there motto and Logo which is,

“Stand for Truth and Righteousness.”

The Young Women logo is a torch surrounded by the Young Women motto. The torch represents the light of Christ, inviting all to “come unto Christ” (Moroni 10:32). It invites all young women to hold up the light of Christ by keeping His commandments.

How appropriate for the time we are in. I will admit.....I am starting to feel that little pinch at my soul to be prepared. Not only physically with food storage, and getting out of debt and all things temporal, but more importantly, spiritually...

I am saddened when I think back to my child hood and remember how easy going life was. I used to ride my bike up and down and around my neighborhood with my neighborhood buddies, have sleepovers, stay out and play street games like, kick the can. When school started every year my sweet dad would give us a blessing and a pep talk to prepare us for what would lie ahead in the school year.
But now, I am not sure there are words to prepare us for what lies in the future, especially the youth of this world. I know that fear is the opposite of faith, but admittedly I do fear for my children...

The gray area between black and white seems to be widening faster and faster. The standards of the world are so quick to change. I would never have dreamed I would live to see the day that Homosexuality, promiscuity, and immorality would be so rampant in the world.

I watch my children like a hawk. I guess you could call me a "helicopter" mom. I hover....for sure, I hover.

But, with all of the uncertainty the world brings, with it's ever changing standards and evil and darkness. i am so grateful to have Light... Light and darkness cannot occupy the same space at the same time. This is both a physical and spiritual law. Light is always stronger than darkness...for where light is, darkness cannot be.

I love that even in a world so dark with evil, light can remain and darkness must flee.

This years 2009 Young Women's Theme was, "Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity" (1 Timothy 4:12) Jenny Phillips (a Latter Day Saint musician) prepared a wonderful presentation of music especially for this theme. My favorite song she prepared is called, "Light Keepers".

He knows it's hard to hold to His light sometimes.

The world is so far from the right, so just close your eyes, He'll help you shine.

Light keeper, be strong. Light Keeper walk on through the night.

When all the world is telling you, it's not worth the fight,

hold on to your light, hold it tight, Light Keeper

You might feel left behind, when other's leave the light.

Oh how the Father loves you.

He'll never leave your side, He'll help you shine.

Oh how you shine. You are filled with the Father's love.

You are worthy of His trust

Oh what beautiful light.

President Monson said, "You are an example of righteousness in a world that desperately needs your influence and your strength....Today, permissiveness, immorality, pornography, and the power of peer pressure cause many to be tossed on a sea of sin and crushed on the jagged reefs of lost opportunities, forfeited blessings and shattered dreams....You can share your testimony in many ways-by the words you speak, by the example you set, by the manner in which you live your life."

We are Light keepers. It is my hope that through my faults which are many, my friends family and especially children will be able to see my light and gain strength from it, to withstand the evil of the world. Because I do have testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. I know it. I have felt it and still feel it now. I cannot deny the spirit I have felt telling me it is the truth.

I am grateful for the stability and blessings and joy the gospel brings to me and my families lives. I am thankful for great friends, family, and neighbors who make it easier for me to keep my light and strengthen it because they share their light with me.

and i am especially thankful for the ultimate example, Jesus Christ, the Greatest light of All....who provided a way for us to perfect ourselves so we can return to heaven with our families and be together always, there is no greater blessing......
