"The greatest gift I ever had
My dad, Richard with my father-in-law, Glen, holding my newly born twins.
My sister, Brooke with our dad.
- My dad is a pharmaceutical sales rep. which means that he traveled maybe 4-6 nights out of the month. His areas that he was over included, Price, Vernal and Moab. Now, these aren't the most exciting places on the map, i know, but as a kid, they were the funnest places ever. Once in awhile, especially during the summer, my dad would let me and my sisters join him for his business trips. We would load up in the car, stop at the Cheveron and pick our big gulp and a treat and we were off on our way to spend a few nights with dad. On the way there we would listen to The Phantom of the Opera and take turns singing the different parts, if mom came along we of coursed listened to Barry Manilow's greatest hits and would sing along to "Copa-cabana", and if we were tired and would fall asleep we were sure to hear dad listening to talk radio with Paul Harvey as the host.
We always stopped at a fun restaurant for lunch such as The Little Acorn, where they served yummy fries and thick home-made shakes! Then back on the road again. Once we got to whichever place it was he had to go, we got to go swimming!!! we loved this. We spent hours in the pool playing. After swimming we would go to dinner. If we were in Moab we would go to The Arches restauraunt, Vernal there was a little malt shop that a bunch of old ladies ran and we would sit at the bar and they would hand make our shakes, and if we happened to be in Price, we went to JB's and would always get the salad bar.
When it got later in the evening dad would take us to the grocery store and let us pick out a pound of candy from the bulk candy and then we would rent a movie to watch that night.
The next morning when we awoke our dad would be gone visiting the hospitals for a couple of hours, but we were always sure to find dougnuts, chocolate milk and grapes for breakfast. When he got home from working, we would do it all over again. Except this time we would either visit the dinosaur museum, delicate arch or go to the movie theaters.
It was such a fun time and I will always hold those memories dear to my heart. In fact, it wasn't until I was about 10 years old that I realized that these trips we were taking were business trips, I just always thought these were our family vacations. Now as an adult I realize how easy it would have been for my dad to just go on these "business trips" without us. But instead, he made it a special occasion by taking us along and a spoiling us the entire time we were there. My friends would brag to me in the summer time that they were going away to Disneyland, or Hawaii, or Yellowstone. I would reply, "Oh yeah, well, I get to go to Vernal with my dad, so beat that!!!"
-My dad loves everyone and everyone loves him. I have yet to meet a person who doesn't like and admire my dad.
-My dad loves my mom and together they are such a cute couple who love spending time together.
-My dad always took time to stop and smell the roses. He enjoys life and has made sure to teach us to take time to not only endure life but to also enjoy life. We were always going to movies as a family, eating popcorn and watermelon out on the back lawn, or barbequing hotdogs at midnight, because my dad just wanted a hot dog.
-my dad spoiled us every year by taking us on a trip to Newport Beach. I have the greatest memories as a kid going away for a week every summer to play on the beach and visit Disneyland
-My dad serves other's. I remember a time when we scraping by, James was full-time studet, full-time work, and we had no money because some of our boys had acquired some emergency medical bills that were making it hard on us, plus it was Christmas time and any extra money that we had went to gifts. We had a few bills to pay and i didn't have any milk or hardly any groceries. My mom and dad showed up at my house with groceries for us, they said that Santa had left some of our Christmas presents at their house on accident so they were just stopping by to bring them to us. I cried and humbly accepted "Santa's gifts".
-my dad let me be his shadow. I can remember following my dad around EVERYWHERE!!! whether he was mowing the lawn, going to Sutherlands to buy something for his current project he was working on or after Kindergarten got over an dhe would pick me up to run errands or visit the last few hospitals he had to visit for work. I was always with my dad, and loved it!
-my dad had faith in his little girl, to follow her heart and marry the man of her dreams, even though she was too young and naive in the ways of the world.
I love you dad. You are my Hero and I know Heavenly Father loves me so much because he gave me to you.
Why I love my Father-in-law:
My father-in-law, Glen
--Glen is a flirt. From the time I met him he was always teasing me with his lines, hugging me, or flirting with me.
-I love the talks I get to have with Glen. We both like to talk so as you can imagine, we can talk for hours and many times have, about anything and everything. I really appreciate the time he takes out of his day to spend some one on one time with me.-He loves to serve others, No matter who, he will help you in ANY way he can. he would give you the shirt off his back.
- He is up for anything. he will do things on a whim, go out to Leatherby's or dinner, catch a movie, do a round of golf with his boys or grandsons.
- He has an amazing testimony and knowledge of the gospel.
-He snores in his sleep and keeps me awake all night when we are at the cabin, ("oh wait, i am writing about things I love about him aren't I?")
-His sense of humor that i think i can say, after 8 years of being his daughter-in-law, i am finally starting to get. He has a joke for anything and will always try to make you laugh.
- He sees the good in all people no matter what their mistakes or trials, and believes in them.
Chase with Grandpa Weight
- And most of all I love him for raising a wonderful son that I was lucky enough to marry. Glen taught James to be a true gentleman, he always gets my doors for me, never raises his voice, loves unconditionally and can fix anything or build anything out of nothing.
I Love You, Glen.
Why I Love my Husband:
My extremely handsome, sweet husband, James
- James puts up with me, and believe me, that is quite the accomplishment. he knows what a spoiled, stubborn brat I can be and yet he still loves me.
-He is my rock. I can rely on James for strength when I am struggling. he is sure to lift my spirits, look to the positive side, or just give me a hug and let me know he loves me.
-He makes the best of all situations and sees the best in everything.
-He listens to my singing, even if he doesn't want to.-He let's me drink the first gulp of his newly poured glass of milk
-He makes the best breakfast
-He lets me try new things out on his hair
-He dances with me to sappy love songs in our kitchen
-He sleeps on the edge of the bed and let's me hog the entire mattress
-He forgoes a datenight so I can finish the last chapter of Twilight
-He does all of the laundry
-He is the hardest worker I have ever known. He can build anything, including a car, our basement, furniture, landscapes, fences, gardens, you name it, he can either build or fix it. He is a master of all trades.
-He gives his all for our family. he endured years of full-time work, and full-time school with maybe 5 hours of sleep for 4 years, because he knew it would better our families situation.
-He follows the gospel completely and with faith. he willingly is so obediant and is always an example of what it means to keep the commandments. He doesn't ask questions or complain he just does it. He puts Heavenly Father first in his life.
-He makes me laugh. James is such a kid at heart. he is always up for fun, and finds ways to make every situation funny.
-He will stay up and watch chick flicks with me, and play Skip-Bo until all hours of the night even though I kick his bottom.
-He lets me talk, talk, talk everywhere we go, I am sure to always find someone to talk to. James will patiently wait for me until I have finished the rounds and made sure that every person in the room knows my entire life story.
-He sees the good in all people and never makes judgements on anyone. I love this quality especially because I need to be more like him in that way.he is so compassionate to others.
-He rocks as a dad to 3 little boys. He loves to be with them. Play with them, read to them, teach them new things. And they love him right back
I Love You James
