Tax Return = Re-Model

Our house was built in 2003, which means it is alomost 6 years old. But after 3 little boys have lived here, James & myself having no money to properly furnish it, and nothing but dirt being tracked in and out, due to no yard for the first two years it existed, you would guess it was more like 2o years old. It was in major need of a "facelift". So with this years tax return we decided to fix her up. (it was either that or another tropical vacation, and although I am very thrilled with my house and the amazing work me and James were able to do, I have to admit with it snowing today a week on a sunny island, sipping virgin Pina Colada's and working on my lack of a tan, sounds pretty lovely right about now

It started with replacing our carpet. I would have been greatful, just for that. But James (a.k.a. "Bob-the Builder") wanted to take it a step further by ripping out a wall, repainting, & new carpet. I was a bit hesitant because I knew that meant a ton of effort, and I wasn't sure if I was feeling it! So after a very brief discussion, nothing set in stone, mind you, I went to work in my salon and put the thought aside in my mind, for now!

When I came back up from work, a wall was missing! Yes, James doesn't take anything very lightly! And 1 month later, we were finished! Wow, he is fast, and I am Greatful! It was no fun having a house torn apart in the middle of winter with 3 little boys! But it looks great!

We chose darker carpet and furniture (we learned fast that light colors don't work well with boys) and did 3 tone paint, with "Mission Style" waynes coating on the wall. It looks awesome. I haven't decorated yet because I am not used to contemporary style. So if you have any ideas do share! Here are some pictures of the finished product.

This is the new area that used to be the "home-teacher" room

The "Mission Style" Waynes Coating on my walls

Earlier this summer we were also able to remodel our bedroom. It was way fun. We textured the upper half of the walls, painted, and then glazed them, I can't remeber the name of our paint. The bottomnm half of the walls have wall frames and is a very dark brown (Crosby, by Ralph Lauren). I love it! I refinished all of my furniture in a Ralph Lauren paint called, "Aged Mint", and then beat the crap out of it to distress it, sanded it down on the edges, and then glazed it too. It is bold and eclectic. I accented it with burnt orange. It turned out lovely, the pics don't do it justice.

Bedroom

Bed pillows

bath-tub accents

chest of drawers

a portion of my vanity

My favorite piece of furniture

So as you can guess, we have been very busy at our house. I say, "we", but I should really say, "my husband". James is the muscle behind the brain (which would be me) I will come up with the idea, which is pretty harmless and simple to do. He created it and makes it happen. So, Thank you James for being my "Bob the Builder", you have an amazing talent and I take you for granted! Bob Villa.........Eat your heart out! I love you babe!

So....I know when my dad gave you that bedroom furniture I totally teased you and told you how freaken ugly it was and that you really didn't need to take it just o be nice......well, now that you've re-finished and all and they look like the latest pieces from pier 1, I just feel like maybe I need to keep it in the family all of the sudden.

Jami! It looks great! I have been wanting to do a wall treatment similar to that. Alan and I love the "arts & crafts" style and that treatment looks like that. It looks wonderful. Good work!
