I don't believe I have written any opinion about the movie, Twilight. I saw the movie the week it was released into theaters. I think I have been putting it off.
Then I got REAL tired of the whole Twilight craze
and now..........here we are again with the release of it onto DVD. Yes, I did purchase it, but honestly, with some regret...
Before you burn me at the stake or shoot me with a silver bullet, here me out. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the book (the first one at least) was so excited to hear they were going to make it into a film.
I read that book it like 14.2 hours, was obsessed with finishing it and fell in love with a teenage vampire named, Edward. Couldn't get enough. James Edward was starting to get irritated with me because I could not put the thing down. So naturally when the film came out i couldn't wait!
But like with any great book we fall in love with, the movie is never as good and sometimes just plain sucks. (except the amazing job of Peter Jackson who re-created a classic novel into one of my all time favorite films, The Lord of the Rings......Love you, Peter. You rock my world!)
Enter Twilight the film
Things that bugged:
#1. Hands down.......The director, fully failed to accomplish the portrayal of Bella and Edwards love towards one another. On film it seemed like a typical high school fling. Edward was a little creepy and stalkerish, and Bella had as much personality as a dried out sponge. Have you ever seen someone so non-chalant! Wow, she bothered me!
Instead of focusing on Edward's chivalerous personality, the director kept reminding us of how much he wanted to eat her. I didn't feel like they were soul mates, or made for eachother, or couldn't live without one another. Instead it seemed like they just met, were curious about each other, and wanted to make out.
#2. When Bella enters the classroom and the fan blows her scent towards Edward.....Pardon my french but he reacted as if she had just had some bad chinese and was popping some off! I laughed so hard (it didn't help that Keelee was with me!)
#3. Bella finds out Edwards a vampire. Wouldn't you be a little more freaked out?!?!?! It's not everyday we learn that people are monsters. But, hey nothing seems to ruffles this girls feathers, even the fact that the guy she loves wants to drink her blood.
#4. The "special" effects. (running up the tree, jumping.....need I say more)
#5. Edward in the sun-light, looked as though he spent to much time at a scrap book convention and got carried away with the glitter.
#6. The cast:
Carlisle: loved him, but hated his dye job on the hair. Wear a wig or stay your natural brunette.
Esme: darling, loved her!
Rosalee: supposed to be amazingly gorgeous, well she wasn't. Although in real life as a hispanic woman she is stunning. For the film, they bleached out her skin, hair, gave her blue eyes. She would have been better left the way she was. But we know that in the book she is a caucasian
blonde......well.......then cast a "caucasian blonde".
Nikki Reed as herself
Nikki Reed as, Rosalee
Alice: goodJasper: Edward Scissor hands on crack! Did he even have any lines in the film?
Charlie: Loved
Billy: Loved
Emmett: Perfect
James: perfect
Laurent: loved that he was black, thought he did well.
Victoria: has potential, I didn't think she was very intimidating but then again she didn't have a huge role in this film like she will in the next. Maybe she'll surprise us.
Edward: mad at first the Rob Pattinson would be cast as Edward....not cute enough, boy did he prove me wrong. He is so handsome! Did well with what he had to work with, has potential to improve, especially under the direction of a different director.
Not excited about Rob Pattinson
Thrilled about Rob Pattinson
Bella: Looks exactly how I imagined, but did not portray Bella as I imagined.
Jacob: my favorite! LOVE him. What a freakin' doll he is. Didn't like him much in the book, fell in love withhim in the film!
Cutie-pie
In the film's defense, the director wasn't fabulous and there wasn't enough funding. maybe now that there ahs been such a huge response too the film and with a new director, New Moon (due out November 2009) will be more satisfying. (even though New Moon is the most depressing of the four books with the Cullen's leaving Fork's)
I just find myself ticked, because afterall, this is THE best book of the series where you fall in love with the love story itself. It has been made and can't be re-made.
But openely I will admit i have watched it 3 times now.....I feel kind of like a sell out watching it, but I can't stay away from that handsome Rob Patinson!!!

Laurent is black in the book.
